Services

At your initial consultation we will discuss which techniques I believe would be most beneficial to you or your child and which ones you prefer.

Together, we’ll create a treatment plan that is customized to you, including the techniques we’ll be using, the number of visits and the results that we’ll be looking for. At each successive visit we’ll monitor how you’re progressing towards the results that you want, and adapt the treatment plan as necessary.

Acupuncture

My acupuncture practice is focussed on emotional healing and family health. In addition to pregnancy and pediatrics I generally work in the areas of mental health, menstrual health (including menopause), and chronic pain/illness.

Prenatal & Postpartum Acupuncture

I can’t say enough about how great acupuncture is for pregnancy and postpartum. For most people this is a time of big emotions, huge changes and many physical discomforts. Acupuncture can help you move through all these with greater ease. In addition this is a time when people may need or want to avoid medications that they might otherwise rely on to manage symptoms. Acupuncture provides a safe alternative. As a member of the Obstetrical Acupuncture Association I am well trained and experienced in providing pre- and post-natal care.

Here are some of the conditions that I commonly treat:

  • Pregnancy nausea (morning sickness)

  • Back and/or hip pain

  • Birth preparation

  • Prenatal anxiety/depression

  • Postpartum anxiety depression

  • Low milk supply

  • Mastitis (blocked milk ducts)

  • Birth trauma

Pediatric Acupuncture

As a parent I’ve learned first hand how the health of each family member affects the family as a whole. When I realised that I had the skills and knowledge to keep my kids healthy it was so empowering. Now I’m passionate about empowering other parents to cultivate the health and wellness of their families.

Lots of people are surprised when I tell them I treat children and babies with acupuncture. In reality I use a lot of different techniques when working with children, including teaching parents to use acupressure to treat their own kids at home.

Here are a few common questions about pediatric acupuncture:

  • There are many different ways to stimulate acupuncture points and to correct the flow of qi in the body. Sometimes I use needles, if a child is willing. They are super tiny and very painless. Most often I use other methods, especially in the beginning. My priority to build trust and rapport with a child and this can take time, but there is always a way to provide treatment.

  • Wiggly kids are part of the fun! I have given treatments to babies as they crawl across the floor, toddlers sitting on parents laps and school age kids who don’t want to sit down. We find a way. As children come to see me more often and know what to expect, they are often able to relax into the treatment. Acupuncture is just as relaxing for kids as it is for adults, after all.

Compassionate Inquiry

Compassionate Inquiry is a therapeutic modality developed by Dr. Gabor Mate. In his words:

“The purpose of Compassionate Inquiry is to drill down to the core stories people tell themselves – to get them to see what story they are telling themselves unconsciously; what those beliefs are, where they came from; and guide them to the possibility of letting go of those stories, or letting go of the hold those stories have on them … That’s what Compassionate Inquiry is.”

It is a process of deep inner work that can help you to:

  • Process and heal childhood trauma

  • Release addictive behaviours and unwanted coping mechanisms

  • Heal from chronic illness or pain

  • Let go of anxiety for good

  • Understand and release emotional triggers

  • Cultivate radical self-acceptance and love

We can do Compassionate Inquiry on its own or in combination with acupuncture. It’s suitable for older teens or adults but not children.

Please note that I am NOT a Registered Clinical Counsellor, a Registered Social Worker or a Psychologist. As such, Compassionate Inquiry sessions are not covered by extended benefits. Acupuncture is covered by most extended health plans. Please check with your Insurer to find out what your plan covers.
